Easy Homemade Pita Bread without Yeast
Soft, fluffy, and perfect for dipping or stuffing with your favorite fillings.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/2 cup strained Greek yogurt
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- Extra olive oil for brushing
- 3 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (for topping)
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
Instructions
- In a bowl, add the water, yogurt, olive oil, salt, and baking powder, and mix very well with a whisk.
- Gradually add the flour until you have a soft dough.
- Brush the dough with olive oil and divide it into 5 balls of about 200 g each.
- Roll out each ball with a rolling pin into a circle about 8 inches in diameter.
- Cook each flatbread in a non-stick pan over medium-high heat until it gets a nice golden color on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- In a small bowl, add the melted butter, garlic powder, salt, and finely chopped parsley, and mix very well.
- Using a brush, spread this mixture on both sides of the flatbreads while they are still warm.
- Serve them with whatever you like - hummus, tzatziki, grilled meats, or your favorite dips!
Notes
This no-yeast recipe is quick and easy! The yogurt adds a wonderful tangy flavor and soft texture. Make sure to brush the garlic butter mixture while the flatbreads are still warm for best absorption. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days, or freeze for up to 1 month.
