Mount Pangaion & Amphipolis: A Special Journey Through Olive Groves and Ancient Wonders

Pangaion view

For me, the true soul of Northern Greece lies in the Pangaion region, a majestic mountain steeped in myth, history, and the earthy essence of olive cultivation. This area, near Kavala, is where Nostos Goods sources its Argilos extra virgin olive oil, blending ancient traditions with modern excellence. It’s a must for anyone seeking authentic Greek flavors and hidden gems.

History of Mount Pangaion: From Prehistoric to Present

Pangaion’s Highlights:

Hike Mount Pangaion: Rising to 1,956 meters, its trails wind through chestnut forests and wildflower meadows. Start from Eleftheroupoli for panoramic views of the Aegean and Thassos Island, perfect for birdwatching eagles or spotting rare flora.

Amphipolis Archaeological Site: Explore this ancient city’s ruins, including the Lion of Amphipolis statue and the Kasta Tumulus mound (a massive 4th-century BC tomb). It’s tied to Alexander the Great’s era and offers a glimpse into Macedonian glory.

The Olive Groves of Argilos and Agriston: These historic groves, at Pangaion’s foothills, produce Nostos Goods’ Argilos EVOO. Wander the organic orchards where Halkidiki olives thrive in fertile, spring-fed soil. Visit Agriston’s state-of-the-art mill to see cold-pressing in action, sample early-harvest oils with grassy notes or milder blends. It’s a sensory reset, connecting you to Greece’s olive heritage (pro tip: pair with local bread and feta).

Our Story: The Journey Behind Our Brand

Biblia Chora Vineyard: Nestled on Pangaion’s slopes, this organic winery crafts acclaimed wines like Ovilos (Assyrtiko-Semillon blend). Tour the vines, taste crisp whites with almond hints, and learn about the region’s ancient viticulture, named for the “Biblia” grape from biblical times.

Ktima Biblia Chora - Maitre de Chai

This area feeds the soul: hike ancient paths, taste oils and wines from the same earth that fueled empires, and feel the timeless pull of Pangaion’s myths (Dionysus once roamed here). Don’t leave without Nostos Goods’ Argilos, bring home the essence of these groves.
